Welcome to the Friends of Broomhill website.

Inaugurated in May 2007, Friends of Broomhill is a community organisation dedicated to the improvement and enrichment of Broomhill Park, Strood, Rochester, Kent.

On this site you will find information, plans and initiatives for the improvement of Broomhill Park.

You can also download the full 'Future Vision' document and the latest newsletter. If you would like to contact us there is a form at the foot of the page. Thank you for your interest.

strood's hidden gem

medway viewBroomhill Park lies at the top of the highest hill in Strood, yet many locals are unaware of its existence.

Between the trees there are spectacular views over Rochester, Chatham, and the River Medway.

Future vision

Long stepsThe long-term ambitions for the park are to enlarge the public space to incorporate the woodland including glades for picnic areas. We also wish to provide picnic areas around the existing park, all suitably furnished, along with improvements of the parking facilities and add amenity buildings.

The short-term aims include better signage, vandal-proofing, frequently located dog poo bins and games amenities for all age groups. The aims are well documented in the Vision Document, produced by Groundwork and approved by Medway Council.

community action

Opening the footpathThe Friends group are working closely with Groundwork and Greenspaces Rangers to ensure that the hill is a safe, welcoming place that can be enjoyed by residents of Strood, Frindsbury and beyond.

We are monitoring footpaths to ensure they are well-maintained, well-lit and free of refuse. We anticipate regular scrub-clearing and planting activities. We are actively seeking funding to carry out the plans shown in the Vision Document.

how can you help?

bluebellsWe need residents to show their support, not only by helping with the scrub clearing and planting days and active involvement in 'Fun Days', but also by subscribing a small amount to become a member.
